Hello world!

HELLO!    This is Beanie’s Story!
Beanie is a 5 year old chihuahua.  A week ago tonight on September 5, 2010, she went out the doggie door into our fenced back yard.  What we didn’t know was that the neighbors dog, a pit bull, had broken out a fence slat and was sitting in our yard.  Needless to say, the dog grabbed a hold of Beanie and the attack began.  My daughters and I, with the help of our Queensland Heeler, were able to subdue the pit bull long enough to get Beanie away.
Beanie was in pretty bad shape.  After spending the entire day Monday at the vet’s office, we were able to bring Beanie home with several puncture wounds, a leg broken in 4 places, pain medication and an appointment for the following day for surgery to repair her leg at a TOP NOTCH vet hospital in Houston, TX.
On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, I took Beanie to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists.  She went into surgery.  Less than an hour into the surgery we were forced to make a decision that would change Beanie’s life forever.  Amputation.  After the surgery, the doctor told us that we had made the best decision.  There was too much muscle damage and infection.  The doctor said the surgery went well and we could expect to bring Beanie home in about 2 days.
The very next morning the doctor called me at work and told me that he couldn’t beleive he was saying this, but that Beanie was ready to go home.  He said she had a great night and was already trying to walk.  I left work early to go pick up my baby girl.
We had a long drive home (just over an hour) and Beanie was having anxiety riding in her carrier.  Once we got home and she saw her human daddy and sisters and her four legged brothers (the heeler, Skrappy, chi/pug mix, Webster and two cats, Tomboy and Jack), she was a happy little camper!
With her mommy and daddy having to work and sisters having school, we took Beanie to grandma’s house for the remainder of the week.  We did not want to leave her alone.  Beanie did great.  She got spoiled rotten (not that she already wasn’t!).
Friday night when we went to pick her up, Beanie was so excited to see us that she was yelping and wagging her tail.  She was standing in the hallway and began to hop towards me.  I picked her up and hugged and kissed her.  I missed her sooooooo much!
Well here we are on Sunday, a week later, and she couldn’t be better.  She has been getting plenty of rest and lot’s of love!  We removed her pain patch and bandages, per doctor’s orders.
She is such a trooper! She has such a great spirit about her. I think she is actually more adorable now than ever.  I can’t wait until the stitches come out and she is able to run around (she really wants to now, but doctor’s orders are that she stay still and rest).
We love our Beanie Sue and I know you would too!

Chloe and I already love Beanie Sue too!!! You are fortunate to need an amputation under circumstances that don’t involve cancer…amputation is usually only the beginning with that. Luckily Chloe had a rare type of soft tissue cancerous tumor that was confined to the area on her leg and amputation “cured” her of it.

Sounds like Beanie is doing great! Keep up the good work! And yes I do think there is something to be said about 3 legged dogs being more adorable… they have such high spirits and don’t care that they only have 3 legs. Makes it so much more inspirational.

    Keep us updated!

What a cutie! You’re not too far from us. We had an appointment with GCVS when Trouble was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, but made the decision to keep her care local. Hope there are many happy days ahead for Beanie!

I just hate hearing this kind of pitbull story. Pitbull owners can never be too diligent about preserving harmony and insuring the safety of their pet and the animals/humans it comes in contact with. I am so sorry you had this experience.

Welcome Beanie Sue and family! Beanie, you are such a doll baby! I love your picture. You must be one crazy little fighter if you survived an attack from a much bigger dog.

I think my girl got more adorable after her amputation too. I don’t know what it is, must be how they know you’re fighting for them.

Good luck with the remainder of your recovery. And you might talk your pawrents into reinforcing that fence with some solid steel or something. 😉

Oh Beanie! What a real trooper you are, we are so glad you survived this awful experience. That says a LOT about how strong and courageous you are.

We’re sorry you had to join the Tripawds club but we’re glad you’re here. Let us know how we can help OK? Something tells me you won’t need much of it, but if you do, we’re here for you.

    Welcome Beanie!

How fun to have a little Tripawd join the pack, you are a cutie.

Boy you have been through alot this week, but it seems your family is taking good care of you.

Many of us here are fighting the horrible menace cancer and I am so happy that is not the case for you!

Look both ways before you try that doggie door again!!!
